Ping Pong Tricks Tutorials

Posted by Mo | Ping Pong | Friday 5 March 2004 8:50 pm

I have been playing Ping Pong since I was a kid. It started when my cousin made table out of a board of wood with the right measurements at his house 108”L x 72”W x 36”H. I loved the game since and kept playing on and off.

This is a tutorial for the fundamentals of ping pong or table tennis. I also threw in some nifty tricks as well as tips and “Vidoes”. So enjoy.

Very nice stuff Mo! Great idea! I wish I had thought of it!

Good idea, but it would be good if you had involved some practical strategies for using the shots, such as for the backspin serve should not really be used, because a serve is not allowed to bounce more that once on the opponent’s side of the table. It would also have been nice to see a profile view of the table to see the effect the spin has on the trajectory of the ball.

Thanks for the ideas Alex; about the backspin serve I did it slow on purpose to demostrate how to do it. I might actually add some profile vidoes to show the effect of the spins

BTW I have updated the movies in the pingpong tutorials, to show better trajectory of the ball.

~ Sergio I don’t really get what you’re trying to say. If you can explain a little more; maybe I’ll be able to help u out!

I love the tutorials you provided. I am just wondering if you would like to provide video clips on how to return the different type of techniques. =)

Hi!!It’s me again.. I am quite i newbie at table tennis (Ping Pong) but i am feeling quite puzzled when i view the “Topspin Serve” Video. I have always thought that when one serves, the ball shld touch his own table before bouncing to the other side. Please correct me if i am wrong. Thanks You.

If you watch closely the ball on the topspin serve is hitting your
side and then the other side, its just too fast thats why maybe u cant
    see it.
for the other suggestions ill make sure to get around that as time permits.

I am almost postitive that serves are allowed to bounce twice on the opponents side, and if it does, it is the servers point. Correct me and point me to a link that proves this wrong.

You are correct 100%. I don’t see why would you think otherwise? When you serve the ball has to hit your side then the opponents side, that’s why I was trying to explain for J.Y.

i know, but if it hits your side then opponents side twice it is the server’s point, correct?

Yup. the opponent has to get it before it hits his side twice, otherwise he loses the point

Nice videos! I found the videos on the different serves very useful. Would be better if you showed more views though.

I do have a question though. If the ball is coming high on a return and you want to be nice, is it legal to hit the ball so it hits your side and goes over teh net to hit there side?

Hi, i love the tutorial on side and backspin serves, i’m a chopper and have no problem with my backhand chop which i manage to add a slight sidespin to the back-spin but have problems with forehand chops, perhaps you can give clips on how to do a proper forehand chop, much appreciated:)

I’m actually working on redoing the movies sometime soon and making a whole website about pingpong so stay tuned!
