Everything happens for a reason?
Does everything happen for a reason?
Is it twist of fate or luck that affects us or shape our life? Or is it cause and effect?
I’m a true believer of the statement, everything happens for a reason. Things in life behave in a certain way due to a certain reason. For instance, snakes crawl on the ground because they have thick skin that allows then to take all that friction from the ground. It’s an obvious example that shows common sense and reason. The earth we live on is explained by physics; again the cause of this is always related to reason. To spice things up I’m going to give a tricky example and try to relate it to the theory behind reason. Let’s say you apply for a “X” school, you do the paper work and all the things within your power to get in the school. However, let’s say you didn’t get in, does that mean you are not too good to be in that school, or just you wasn’t lucky to get in because there were too many students who applied? Let’s assume that your grades are good and all. In other words, would that have to deal with luck or reason? The way I would think about it is, I didn’t get in to that school because there was a good reason behind it, a good reason that I might not understand or know. But the fact that I did everything possible or within my power to get in, is the right way of approaching and achieving goals in my mind, so if it doesn’t work out, then I would move on to the next plan thinking maybe it didn’t work out for my own benefit! In other words, as long as we are exerting a 100% effort in what we do. We shouldn’t worry about the result of it whether it was negative or positive, the real deal is exerting that effort; don’t worry about the things that you can’t control, so in other words do your best about the things that you can control and have power upon.
It seems to me that cause and effect is rational explanation to all of our actions. You study, you pass. You drink and drive; you crash, etc… I know there could be exceptions but exceptions don’t make rules! That’s why there are weak reasons.
Do you believe in luck? Do you think you’re lucky if you have lots of money and everything you want in life? Well you are not lucky if you worked your ass off to get all that, however what if you inherited all that money? Would that make you think you’re lucky? I’d say your not since your parents worked their butts off to make all that. Which brings me back to the theory it happened for a reason?
Please share your thoughts if you will, remember I wrote this for a reason ![]()

Cause and effect is a rational explanation. For instance,
Cause: You are cheating on a work out, aka stepper, not using good form.
Effect: In the end, you defeat the purpose of working out, and gain nothing.

I agree, everything happens for a reason and it can all be summed up like Larry said…Cause & Effect. You do something, something else happens. It can be applied to everything.

Everything does happen for a reason. I believe God influences every little thing and watches out for those who put their trust in him.

I have to agree with you Marcus, I believe that things are predestined by God. That’s why they happen for a reason.
May 6, 2004 - 9:03 pm
I don’t believe in predestiny, because that essentially leads to the belief that our lives are mapped out for us. If that is true, we don’t really have any control, because all of what we see as decisions are already decided. I believe that I’m in control of my life and really do have choices.

I don’t think anyone can answer this question and have it 100% correct. Noone knows the anwer for this whether we are predestined or not; but God. The creator.

…and no ones knows if God was the creator or if it’s all because of Science and the Big Bang Theory. Shit…no one even knows if there is a God out there…but that is a whole different discussion. See what you got me into now!?!?

I guess this is your personal opinion about this matter. However, I believe that there is God out there, for several reasons. We were brought to this world and we were made.

Predestiny and free-will is a big controversy. If God knows what you will do, you can’t do otherwise, so it seems that you don’t have free-will. But I look at it this way… let’s say you do have free-will, so you can make your own decisions. There is a fact about which decisions YOU WILL MAKE in the future. God just knows what those decisions will be. Anyways, we could go on forever debating about these things. I recommend taking a philosophy of religion course… you learn about a lot of these issues.
Back to the main topic… I think God helps things work out better if you have a strong faith. If you really wanted to get into a certain school but you didn’t make it, something else better might happen that is more important than that school. Or maybe it’s a sign that you’re faith is not as strong as it should be.

I like your opinion Eric; I agree with the point that God helps things work out better for us if we have strong faith! The bottom line is whatever happen to us happens for a reason; It’s a matter of how we deal with the situations. Everyone is going to act differently depending on their faith and what not.

I believe that Mo brings up a good example of life. Some people believe that fate or luck brings on everything in life or some people believe life is predestined. Even though I am a strong believer of my faith I know that life is based upon your own decisions with God watching down upon you hoping that you make the right instead of wrong choice.
Lately Mo has been helping me out with a situation because he’s supportive and helps me to realize this happened for a reason. Everything happens for a reason no matter if you’re a stronger believe in a religion and believe every choice is predestined or believe that you can live your day one at a time. God did give us the choice between right and wrong and sometimes people choose to do the wrong thing instead of right. There are things you could do to help someone, but no one can determine the fate of a situation except ourselves with God looking upon. God will always be there to look upon and try his best for us to make right decisions instead taking the plunge into the wrong impact of life.

I know many people believe that everything happens for a reason. I would really like to believe that. However, I can’t help but wonder – maybe that is just a psychological mechanism that humans have come up with to help us cope through hard times. Things that are so painful for us. Maybe we just tell ourselves that to get through it. Perhaps things just happen. We make good or bad decisions that affect our lives in either positive or negative ways. We can ruin our lives with bad decisions, and those things don’t happen for a reason. They just screw up our lives.

Interesting viewpoint Deana !
Human mind functions and operates with the help of reason. For instance, if you were to jump from a mountain , your mind is going to stop you and say Hey.. you’ll die since it’s UNreasonable for you to do so. The point is we can’t live without reason. Meaning Everything has to happen for a reason!

So Mo, what you are saying is that…things don’t happen for a reason, meaning there is some higher power being God or whatever, putting things together, but that in our minds, we make up a reason for why things happen?

This is a possibility.. NOONE can tell you this for a FACT. But it’s an option out there:!:

It’s true, every thing happened, happened for a reason……….:arrow:In general caset, we are created for an aim so for a reason…….. We do acts lotof acts in our life, and each act was predefenitly supposed to be done, inexorably done for a reson ……… Even when breath air when we make a choice when say something…… All of those acts are done for a reason….Finally, even the doomsday will be happened for a reason ……. A reason wich we ignore it for a moment,,,,,,

Well, event that’s examined close enough is discovered to have happened because of certain conditions, so everything happens for a reason.
If this is true, then everybody’s choices are predetermined.
If everything is cause and effect, and everything follows the laws of physics, then, on a molecular level, the exact position and velocity and condition of the molecules, everywhere, will without doubt lead to certain things happening the next instant.
At the beginning of time, everything happened a certain way, to cause other things to happen, to eventually lead to the way things are today. Therefore, everything was predestined at the beginning of time, because everything has a reason.

i believe that we have a choice and (god gave adam and eve a choice didnt he?) but i also think that we have already made our choice and that there is no way to change that choice its like the “orical” said we have already made our choice now its time to find out what it(the choice) was and then why.

lol welp let me comment on your post.as i am 33yrs old and have worked since i was 14-15.part time of course till out of high school.then i chased/lived my dreams which in the end is all that matters.while reaching for my goals i have worked full time and also work 2 jobs at two different times.so i say to this I MADE MY LUCK.this is not what i consider lucky.i worked my ass off and im okay with that.now if i was to inhereit millions tomorrow, thats what i would call pure luck.and i would celebrate by not working and choosing hobbies i love and such to fill my time on earth.so yes everything does happen for a reason sometimes…you could say i guess my ship has come in for working so hard.peace out…

I believe that fate and free will are not seperate things. They are not opposites as most people say they are. I think there are certain paths that we can chose and the choices we make decide what path we go on but that those paths are determined before we decide which one to take. For instance, someone asks you if you want a cigarette you say yes. Later on down the path, you find out you developed lung cancer. If you would have chosen the other path, this would not have happened. This is I guess very similar to cause and effect. However, we must take into consideration that we don’t just make decisions for ourselves we also make decisions for others. Like smoking while you are pregnant and such. You are chosing to limit some of the paths your child will have to chose from.

Let’s say you believe in God, you believe that God knows all. Some might say you must believe in fate but God knows no time. Everything is always happening because He can see everything at once. It is a hard concept to conceive but just think about it. He sees everything. All paths not necessarily one path for each of us to travel on. God sees all the possibilites for each of us and where each choice we might possibly chose takes us. So God yes in this sense is all knowing but not necessarily the controller of everything. He simply knows where each possible choice takes us and we decide what choice we chose. Hence fate and free will both exist. Once we chose we are fated to a a path that will lead us to more choices and other fated paths and so forth and so on.
